VENICE  HIGH  MYRNA  LOY  PROJECT  INFO
Project Update - April 24, 2009
Hi Ron,

We are building a new web site, and I've been putting my efforts on that site with the Myrna updates.  Hoping for the new site soon.

Re: the project.  We have been meeting with LAUSD on a regular basis, and hitting many road blocks.  However, there is a new complex manager for our school and we are meeting on Monday the 27th.  When we spoke he didn't see any problems with our installation dates and I'm hoping that will continue on our meeting Monday.

We plan to install the base and plants in July 2009 and the statue Winter Break December 2009.  With the dedication early 2010.  The artist, Ernest, is working on the 7' piece as I type.  I talk to him weekly, we are shooting a documentary on the project too!  It's exciting! Thanks for your inquiry and support.

Venice Gondoliers "Fifty-Five Plus" Club - Class of 1953 Chapter
Charter Members
Membership Requirments are simple. Tell us what has happen since our graduation day.
Download/Save Editor to Your Desktop  •  Type Your Bio  •  E-mail Bio and Narriated Photos

  • First try the Download of the Text Editor to the Desktop (link above).
  • You could use the Notepad on your computer, but NOT Wordpad.
  • Try this new editor. It is just a typewrite emulation. Save files as *.txt .
  • You likely know e-mailing with attachments. E-mail the file and photos.
  • No word processing files (*.doc, *.wpf, *.pdf, *.wdp). They are `printer` files.

A good start on what to place in your bio can start with the "masking" and "pasting" the text from Toni's "Book of Memories" project below into the Notepad+ editor.
Toni wrote to tell me she had only a dozen classmates responded to her request.  Her great idea just needs to be accomplished.
Or, you can freelance what you want to say, like Betty did.
Or, do as I and the "Captain" did.  We had bios all prepared, and were willing to share.
You know as well as I do, most of us are not tooooooo busy to not to be involved.

If you still need to know more about what to do, then e-mail me. - Ron

Hey Guys and Gals,

I know Sharon does her very best to keep me informed of changes in e-mail addresses.  But she can only inform me,  if you inform her.  Seems some of you may not have done that recently.  So here are the e-mail "surname@" of e-mail that has bounced to me.

gburtsell@   fwommack@   barbwires@   atmerenbach@   artdavis1@   bradleyrichard@   abelpat@   bjauer@   seamass66@   marvinjoy@   jonasrose@   paul_metzger@   jwkly@   lpcicco@   jjanis@   mkoza@   moonstruck@   pstuver@   rhurlbt@

So all of you whose e-mail "surname@" appears above need to check the "Class Roll" page.  If you find that I have your old email address listed,  or if any of our classmates keep in touch with those listed,  please contact them so I can have valid addresses.  Classmates should contact Sharon as Coordinator,  but you can contact me also. -   Thanks, Ron

Check the WANTED poster below.

Would you like to contribute to the site?

    If someone wants to take the time and make the effort; has a scanner and a '53 Yearbook, then I would be glad crop the 1953 Classmate photos for the class site.  If the photo pages have good vertical alignment I can just post the pages.

    To accomplist the task it requires properly aligned scans. If anyone is going to volunteer, just let me know.  Oh, Send the scanned pages via E-mail. - Ron

BTW.... the BGCOLOR="aliceblue" and the text is Color="ronreed".  Alice and I were a thing then.

Something is shamefully missing!
Don Nickell, VHS'48, took both photos. Both photos are now VHS classics.

Something NEW: Our VHS'53 Message Board
Our VHS'53 Message Board is an alternative to the En Mass e-mail feature.  So, If you have messages for all of us, or a group that is planning an activity, you can send a message here.
    Remember, what you write will be seen by everyone.  There is a one requirement: Enter Your Name.  The entry of your email address is optional (but the webmaster reserves the right to delete your message, or any other inappropriate messages).
    There is another major constraint... you CAN NOT enter `double quote` characters in your message (the single backquote, `, can be used as a substitute).  The Message Board holds 50 messages and purges the older ones.

Northwest Mini-Reunion - Summer 2005
Photo back: Fred Wantz, Jack North, Abel Rodriguez
Front row: Carol North, Pat and Jim Fox.

    Fred Wantz, Jack and Carol North, while driving down the Oregon Coast, arranged with Jim and Pat Fox for this get-together at their home in Coquille.
    Abel Rodriguez, just back from a trip of his own, drove in from Roseburg to join the group. All are doing well, feeling great, and enjoying their golden years.
    I saw Abel two years ago, but it has been 52 years since I've seen Fred and Jack. It was really nice getting together with them all on this lovely day in Oregon. - Jim Fox

From where does the web page material come?
Some of it comes from you.  Sent by a Class of VHS'53 grad (August 5, 2005) ---
Some people preach less government in our lives!  So, why vote?
THINK ABOUT THIS ....
   A car company can move its factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market.
   A toy company can out source to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it's a free market.
   A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market.
   We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico. We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh.
   We can purchase almost anything we want from 20 different countries.
   BUT, heaven help the elderly who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian pharmacy.  That's called un-American!  And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have a powerful lobby? Think again!
   Please forward this to every person you know over age 50.  It is an interesting point of view.  Maybe this is an issue that should come up in the next election!
   Forget the 50, discuss this to everyone.!   We're all in this boat together.

The first East Coast Mini-Reunion.

Tuesday, June 26, 2005
   Rusty, LaDonna, Ron and Priscilla met at the "Rollins Retreat" in Maggie Valley on the misty slopes of the Smokey Mountains.  The afternoon consisted of chatting about what happen at VHS and the 52 years since. The trip to the Cherokee Harrah's Casino was a mountianeous ride "up and down" US19.  An hour of "losing nickels and quarters at the slots" was enjoyed before four nice steak dinners at the hotel.  We vowed to see if we could establish our "across the Big Muddy" mini-reunions.  So, those grads that have migrated east should try to meet more often.
Could we have a Second East Coast Mini-Reunion?

Would our classmates living east of the "Big Muddy" be interested in a mini-reunion in the Fall of 2008.  Possibly late September or early October?  The Smokey Mtns and Cherokee will have the fall foilage.  Tourist will be gone.  Food is good.  Logging is reasonable.  There is golf and a casino.  It is close to a day's drive except from New England and South Florida.
So, if you could get away, then we could get together!

• They're Back! Church Bulletins: Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. These sentences actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services •
Thanks Toni!

Look's like a great Mini-Reunion. - Toni sent these photos.

To all classmates:

I would like each of you to verify your email addresses.
This is a MUST. You don't need to confirm a correct address by e-mail, just check its validity!  For those using "mail washer" utilities, you need to consider if you wish to receive class email sent by your webmaster and other classmates.  If you webmaster receives bounced mail, it will be assumed the email address is invalid.

  ~~~~ Toni's Book of Memories Project ~~~~
I need your help! The class of '52 published the most interesting book - a collection of mini-biographies of many members of that class.
The way the class of '52 did it was to ask everyone to send in their memories of those high school, junior high and even grammar school years.
Also, place of birth, when you came to CA, brothers, sisters, jobs, children, grandchildren, etc. etc. They basically broke it into three parts: early year, high school, and after.
If you would take a few minutes and email your biography to: tonijc@aol.com , I will start working on our "memory book". I'd really appreciate your help!!! --- Toni
Maybe the following will help! Mask and Copy the text in the window below, then open Notepad, WS-Word, or your mail utility. Paste in the text. Edit and email to Toni.
Take your time. Topics are optional, and add your own! ---- Ron
